About the Artist

Roger Moore is a graduate of Syracuse University School of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. His post-graduate studies in art at that institution were interrupted by his being drafted as a foot soldier into the Korean Conflict. He regards as his most influential teachers, Merrill Bailey, an acclaimed watercolorist who was his mentor at Cazenovia Central School, and Merlin Pollock at Syracuse University. He has painted continuously throughout his adult life and has owned and operated Gallery North in Clinton, New York, for nearly a decade. He has created about 800 oils and perhaps 2000 small watercolors.
His interests include set designs for opera and musical theater, stained glass, small watercolors, but principally painting, primarily in oils. He designed and painted sets for six major productions for the Utica Opera Guild. He has been set designer and painter for six musicals at New Hartford Central School. His stained glass windows are in several homes; the front doors of the Kirkland Art Center and the window in Clinton's St. James Columbarium Chapel are recent creations.
He has had five one-man shows at the Kirkland Art Center; he has won first prize in their juried shows on two occasions. He had a one-man show at the Howard and Bess Chapman Cultural Center at Cazenovia College in October of 2002. He was featured in a two person show at the Central New York Community Arts Center Gallery at the Stanley in 1999. He had a one man show at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse in 1980. He frequently is represented at the Cooperstown National show and shared a five-person show following their competition in 1988.
He was the juror for the Cooperstown Regional Show in June, 2006. In November of 2008 the Kirkland Art Center presented a retrospective exhibition of his works, chronicling his 70 year career as an artist. In April of 2009 he was one of six artists selected to participate in the Kelberman Center art exhibition.

Awards Roger Moore has been represented at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute Annual Exhibition, Artists of Central New York, Cazenovia Invitational, Syracuse Regional at Everson Museum, Rome Art Center Masters Competition. In 1996 he won a Special Award at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute summer festival sidewalk show. His awards in the year 2000 are First Place in oils, National Rural Arts Exhibition, Carefree Gardens Award in the Cooperstown Regional Show, Judge's Merit Award in the Cooperstown National Show, the most popular painting award in the Rome Regional Show and the Utica Art Association Tri-County Show, First Place in the Masters Division. In 2001 and 2003 he won second place in oils in the National Rural Arts Exhibition, and in 2002 he won first prize in oils in that same competition. In 2002 he won a first place award in the Rome Regional Art Exhibit and in 2004 and 2006 he won first place in oils in the National Rural Arts Exhibition. He won first place in the Masters division of the Tri-County Art Show 2005. In 2008 he won several awards at the Rome Regional Show including the Board of Trustees Award for Artistic Excellence.
He is represented in the permanent collections of the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, (oil painting, "Morning Wind"), Mohawk Valley Community College, Niagara Mohawk Corporation , Kirkland Art Center, Frostburg University, Kirkland Town Library and numerous private collections. He has over 600 paintings in private collections.
